A 25km stretch of the Pictou-Oxford railbed trail that runs through Tatamagouche. This is a multi-use trail open to pedestrians, cyclists, ATVs, and snowmobiles during the winter months. There are various entry points to the trail, multiple with parking lots to unload, and 3 washrooms that are still accessible during the off season. Some of the highlights of the trail include the Creamery Square, which is bustling with activity every Saturday due to the farmers market filled with local produce and hand crafted artisanal goods. The square also includes a small museum highlighting some of Tatamagouche’s rich history such as the giant Anna Swan, fossils from around the area, and some neat exhibits you'll just have to check out for yourself. Some other notable stopping points along the trail are; Nelsons Park, Pattersons wharf (Built by the men in the community during the filming of TV show The Week The Women Went), The Train Station Inn, The Sutherland Steam Mill, and many breathtaking views of the French and Waugh rivers.
After leaving the store, head right towards the heart of downtown Tatamagouche until you reach signage for Pattersons Wharf on the right side of the road. Head down the road, which will lead you to the Butter trail. Continue right after getting onto the trail, and follow it through the village until you reach the crossing after the steel train bridge. Turn left onto the sunrise trail, and then take the first left onto Sand Point Branch Rd. Continue along this road until reaching the Brule Shore Rd, and turn right. When you come to the end of the road, you will reach a stop sign; to your left you will find the Brule Point golf course, as well as the Country Bread Basket Bakery and coffee shop, a great place to stop for a rest and grab a quick snack. To continue the route, head right and the road will bring you back to the sunrise trail. Turn left onto the road, and follow it until you reach HWY326, on the right side of the road. Along this road, you will find The Pork Shop, a specialty deli with all of your barbeque essentials, as well as the historic Sutherland Steam Mill. Here, you have two options. You can hop back on the Butter trail, which has an access point next to the steam mill which will take you right back into Tatamagouche, or continue along the road until reaching HWY256 (on the right), which will take you past another historic site, the balmoral grist mill. When you come to the end of HWY256, turn right and HWY311 will take you back into Tatamagouche to complete your ride.
When leaving the store, you can either take the Trans Canada, enter the trail either from Creamery Square or Pattersons Wharf, and continue along the trail until reaching the gate where the trail crosses HWY6 (Sunrise trail) and turn right. The other option is to stay on Main St. and continue right through Tatamagouche onto HWY6. Continue along HWY6 until reaching Malagash Rd, and turn right. Follow this road until you reach an intersection, and turn left onto Smith Rd. Near the end of the road, you will find Jost Vineyards, an amazing local winery that would make a great place to stop for lunch. Turning left will bring you back to the sunrise trail, returning to Tatamagouche. Turning right after leaving Jost will bring you through Malagash, and eventually to a stop sign. To the left, is Blue Sea provincial beach, and a longer loop that will bring you around the Malagash peninsula and to the right is a shorter loop that will bring you back to Malagash Rd.
